About the Poultry Museum

Barneveld is known as the cradle of Dutch poultry farming. And it still plays a leading role in this sector. So it makes sense that the Dutch Poultry Museum is located there.

A unique museum where the history of chickens and eggs is presented in a fascinating way. Here you can take a journey through the history of Dutch poultry farming. See an antique incubator that is still in use and follow a chick as it hatches from its egg. When the chicks are a little older, they can be held and cuddled. In the hall with the live animals, more than 20 Old Dutch breeds show off their beautiful colors. For children, there is a treasure hunt for an exciting tour through the museum.

You can participate in an auction in the authentic auction room. By pressing a button to stop the auction clock at the right moment, you can become the owner of a nice souvenir, a box of Barneveld eggs, or a bottle of egg liqueur. Enjoy a cup of coffee, tea, or a soft drink in the coffee room. Have a cookie, a Barneveld sprits, or a traditionally made piece of apple pie with it. We also offer a toasted sandwich or, of course, chicken soup for lunch. Before you leave the museum, visit the museum shop for original gifts and other items. Everything is chicken and egg themed, of course.

After your visit, you will conclude:

“Abeautiful and fascinating museum!

Volunteers wanted

The Poultry Museum runs entirely thanks to volunteers. We can count on a large group of enthusiastic volunteers. Among other things, they take care of the cash register, welcome visitors, or are on duty in the museum shop, coffee shop, and so on. We also have volunteers who give guided tours and work in the auction room. Some tour guides come from the poultry industry, while others have gained their knowledge through training courses and workshops.

A lot of work is also done behind the scenes. The preservation and management of the museum, the buildings, and the collection require a great deal of attention.

Due to the increasing number of visitors, we also need more and more volunteers. If you would like to join an enthusiastic team of volunteers at the Poultry Museum, please contact us or, better still, come and visit us for an informal chat about this wonderful work in our beautiful museum.
