An experience for young and old
Auction room
Until the early 1990s, egg auctions were the place where millions of eggs changed hands. In an auction room, the auctioneer offered one batch of eggs after another, and those present could buy them by shouting 'mine' or pressing a button. However, most eggs from modern poultry farms now find their way to consumers through contracts with regular customers and processing companies. Commercial egg auctions no longer exist.
The museum still has an auction room in operation with an interior dating from 1930. Visitors can still press a button to stop the old auction clock and buy a box of eggs or a nice souvenir. And even today, the same rule applies: those who press early pay the most, but those who wait too long go home empty-handed.
